Having trouble making friends in college?

I just started college in august, this is my second semester. Its a pretty huge university, like 20,000+. I had plenty of friends my entire life, mostly i guess cause u see the same people every day and are forced to eat lunch socially and everything is a repeat of the previous day. but in college its so different. I was getting friendly with my roomy but he moved out 2 weeks in, and i cant meet anyone in my cles cause they are either like 500 people in a big *** auditorium, or like a norm sized cl but the teach talks the entire time. and im not down with any kind of club or council thingies.
