How can I make friends who share my interests when I am stuck in suburbia?

I go to a really small private school in a really small beach town. I am a bit of a bookworm and I don't enjoy sports, beaches, and sunshine. I have a three good friends but now that I am in high school I want to meet more people and maybe even get a boyfriend. However, I am having some trouble finding people who share my interests. Is there a way I can meet people like me when I live in such a small town?
